Saturday 10th at 1PM. Drove to Rayner's Park, Keswick to take a look and got a few surprises. Considering that on the 6th I posted pics of open water south of Snake Island, I was rather surprised at the number of people spread right across Cook's Bay seemingly right to Gilford. I also saw parasails and snowmobiles ripping about, but what shocked me was seeing 2 mid sized pickup trucks parked on the ice along with a smart car. I suspect they're not from here. The smart car was stuck in a drift, wheels spinning and resting on it's frame. sigh
CTC moved it's minnows to the left side wall. I bought a aerator and think I'll venture out Monday, let the tourists depart.
see you out there, will be wearing my full camo suit again.

We where out on the bay just in front of Keswick, out from Rayners rd.where fishing in 16 feet of water and slammed the perch from the time we got there till we left 8 till one. We kept about enough for a good snack and tossed the rest back.they where hitting anything we put down. Just one of those great fishing days that happen every so often.👍👍👍😀

Hi All and Poppajd:
I totallllly agree that I am surprised with the number of people who were out on the lake today - especially in some areas where the ice is not as thick as others. I have decided that some people do not realize that certain areas of the lake are much shallower such as Cook's Bay and in Beaverton but that other areas of the lake take longer for the ice to be thicker and/or considered safer.
Poppajd I for one observed and noted your pictures earlier this week with a special emphasis (in my case) concerning the pictures near Snake Island due to the fact this is the part of the lake I frequent the most.
In addition, whenever possible I try to post the ice/lake conditions for other people because I truly appreciate when someone else posts the conditions for my benefit. What never ceases to amaze me is how some forks either completely ignore when someone posts a warning about possible unsafe conditions OR someone shows up at the lake without any knowledge of the ice conditions. Case in point - today Mr. Vampire with Freckles and the dog (the real "Freckles") drove up to check on the ice (I was at home due to the fact I slipped on ice in the grocery store parking lot last night and put out my back) while they were at the lake a group of 8 people (probably city folk) drove up jumped out of their cars with skates and went out on the lake and skated. Not one person in the group thought to check the ice conditions/thickness although they all stopped to take each others pictures. BTW - they were skating in an area where there was open water at best 3 days earlier!!!!
My thoughts on people parking on the ice or using ATV's and ski doo's etc. at this time of year is they not only risk their lives but they also potentially affect other people who are out on the ice - in the event they break through the ice or the weight of their vehicle can weaken the ice for someone else who happens by.
I always try to be considerate of other people and do so in a safe manner and never leave a mess or cause environmental problems for other people who use the lake. I know most people feel the same way but unfortunately the few that do not have left me shaking my head on more than one occasion. BTW - when I see other people doing stupid things - I never know if I should simply bite my tongue or say something.
That's my rant for the day. For all the folks who post ice/lake conditions - I for one really appreciate your efforts and take to heart your interest in my safety and I will continue to do the same.

I was up on Kemp about three years ago now, two days before the big rescue.. and some clown drove past our popups with a black full sized truck. The ice where I was may have been 7 inches thick and he was headed TOWARD the main lake. The water in my holes started flushing up and down like a toilet and soaked the bottom of my suitcase hut!!! Two hours later, he drove past on his way back and I got "flushed" again. I may be wrong but I think Flippin was there that day too. I could not believe it. Some guys just don't get it. Take it from me.... it's fun to live long enough to be a grandpa. Driving on thin ice is not worth the risk just for some fish!
