st williams lake erie, safe ice and fish?

I fish LPB in the summer exclusively. Ice fishing is tough. The bay is 6ft on average. Out in the north channel it gets to 14 ft however ice is sketchy out that far. Most of the outfitters are 1-2 km out from shore. Fishing flats looking for schools to come by. Less than average catches I would say for this season so far.

With all the fishing opportunity in my area - not sure when will have time to try out Lake Erie.

Has anyone gone out from port rowan this year. Went out from start williams a couple of weeks ago with little luck. A friend of mine said to go west,hence the question. Hopping to not have to walk as far and hopefully find more fish.
One last question. Have people been having more luck catching perch on sandy flats or weedy areas?
