The marvels of the internet. Go to weather then look up North Bay under the N in the index. Now since weather forecasting is still a hit and miss effort and over a month away until the season opens up there, you'll have lots of time to develope some "worry" ulcers. Nobody can give you the answer you're looking for with any guarantee, written, verbal or hopeful. We almost had to cancel a few years back and that was the weekend of the 19th of Jan. The Hut Op had only put the huts out 2 days before and there was barely 6-7 inches of ice, so no driving or drilling extra holes.

Welcome aboard Shawn Skinner,
Hopefully there will be safe ice on opener in Nipissing. This year we have had a milder then normal fall and lake temperatures are a bit high for this time of year, which may delay ice formation. Although a few cold windless nights in Dec can help accerate ice up. Fingers crossed and a cold Dec and we should be fishing on opener.. I will contact a few operators closer to season start and post in here on the conditions.. Tightlines, Jerry

There was some skim ice here and there a week ago, but the mild weather ook care of that.

In short, it's ready to freeze.........now you need that magical -20 for 3 days to form decent ice.

I'm headin up jan 2nd....lots of time for ice formation yet.

Anyhow, worrying will not induce ice.

Personally I think the opener might be in doubt. I usually go the first week of the season, but for some reason I chose not to go till the 15 of Jan. But the weather can change in a hurry, and a week of average temps of -15 with little snow can do wonders. Here's hoping for a good and fun filled ice fishing season for everyone.

Our operator called us ealier this week and suggested we reshcedule to the 15th..........so we did.

IF..........ice happens, we would still go on Jan 2nd, but I am now doubtfull myself. I think we would have been ok except for this particular weather this week.
