I got skunked today. Fished in 24' ow, marked some fish but they just didn't want to bite. This is only second time I fished this lake on the ice, first this season, I simply didn't know where to go. I Couldn't even "follow the crowd" because I was the only one on the lake. Later I moved closer to shore, 14 fow, again marked lots of fish coming of the bottom to smell my bait but no bite. As for keeping warm I must say that the rapala rap shack does a great job, it got so warm in the hut that I had to turn off the heater, i can only imagine how nice the insulated huts are. No fish, so I'm making pizza for dinner, lol, at least the kids are happy about me not catching any fish, haha

Sorry about the skunk, but glad you are pleased with the shack and it kept you warm! I'm trying out it's replacement tomorrow out on simcoe.
Were you using live bait or just dead/artificials? At leaset you were marking fish, nothing worse than a skunk coupled with a blank finder....
Hope you have better luck with your other fishing ventures this weekend.

That's just how it goes sometimes .you can't win them all.At least you had a chance to try the new hut out on one of the coldest days this year.Sounds like you were very happy with it and performed well. Better luck next time. Play safe out there.

Belwood is probably the hardest lake I have ever fished. It is the closet drive from my house but I have been skunked more times than I care to remember. I have finally caught my Walleye but I certainly had to put in the time….and a lot of it.
Remember, Belwood is a reservoir and the water levels change throughout the year. As a result, the fish are always on the move (I think anyway). Next time you are there and the office is open, pick up a hydrographic map of the lake. Navionics thinks its all farmland….lol. Look at the depths, time of year and look for where the "real" grand river is. Thats about all I will say here now on a public forum.

I agree slingshot about the fish always on the move i fish it alot in the spring May and June mostly after that it starts getting pretty busy i usually am there super early and gone by 1 or 2 the fishing gets pretty tuff after lunch time due to the jet skis and boat traffic but through the week its not to bad..... On a side note do or did you have a boat in Lassalle marina just wondering...

Hi fishmagnet,
Sorry, not me. I agree 100%….as the temps warm up, Belwood is terrible with the traffic….weekdays and early is your best bet. By noon….time for brewskis as the recreational traffic take over.
