I am heading to Halls lake next week, and was told that there are Lake trout in the lake. My question is, Are there any other species of fish I can target in the winter? Walleye, whitefish or herring? I only ask because I know that sometimes the ministry guides are not a good reflection of the current situation in a lake. Thanks

That's what I was afraid of "skunks" LOL . I guess I'll just have to catch a Buzzzz apparently really small trout on this lake, and a slot size to boot. Still beats working don't it?

Especially if you can catch a buzz. Usually lakes that have trout in them also have whitefish and herring, I've heard of a few walleyes being caught in area lakes that traditionally never had had them before.

Halls is very deep lake with a river mouth at the north end. Be careful out there. don't trust the local track either, they have no quarrels running open water up that way. mainly lakers out there. there is only ONE line per person allowed on halls too remember. if mobile little hawk lake. no slot size, and two lines allowed. great fishing too. good luck.

Just fished Halls lake this past Sunday and the fishing was pretty slow. Had a few bites but the marks were small on the flasher, not sure what they were.
We fished big hawk lake Saturday and little hawk on Monday. Lost a few fish at both big and little hawk lake but didn't end up with anything on the ice. Fish were not overly aggressive and would only hit the dead stick.

Just got back from Halls lake today, and the fishing was tough to say the least. Some trout were caught, but they were tough to hook. Donated a lot of minnows LOL. I found it was a very light bite, and getting a good hook set was the biggest battle. Also the fish that were caught were either very small 7"-10" or were in the slot size and were released. Sorry, no pics, nothing worth bragging about. All in all, a good time with friends and a beautiful scenery. Definitely do it again.
