I was scouting the area before we got all the snow. The ice was extremely rough! You would never be able to travel with an ATV. Now we've had about 1.5' of snow which will fill in all the valleys of rough ice. In my opinion a wheel of the atv will go down into a valley & get stuck quite easily. A sled would hopefully stay on top of the snow.

I have been out two weekends in a row with my atv. the little parking area just past birdie boat club is the best bet to park and has trail to the ice. try to stick to the trail going out. at first it is nice traveling then a little rough then gets smooth again. once you hit the big shove ice the travelling is realy rough, no sleds past that point at all. good luck

Walked out of crystal beach and followed a trail out...caught a few jumbos...wind picked up and covered the trails ...had to walk in deep snow all the way back . I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.Hands down the most terrible walk Ive ever experienced..lol. snow machine is the only way to go. ATV would get stuck for sure if you go off the path.
