If freezer is empty first 50 perch over 8" goes into the bucket along with a couple of herring and all the smelt I can catch. An 8" taste the same as a 12" and by avoiding selectively harvesting jumbos doing my part to keep the stock balanced.

I buy a conservation liscence as a way of putting a limit on myself, not for the price. I keep my limit of 25 every time i go and none will be under 8", alot will speculate i'm full of myself or full of s**t but with a little effort its usually not that difficult, i also put no size restrictions on myself, there seems to be no shortage of yellows in our great lakes, simcoe included, small inland lakes are a whole nother story

I usually keep enough for a couple of meals. One fresh one for the freezer. I only make it up to Simcoe a couple of times a year.
x2 Same here, rarely get to go to Simcoe as well so we will keep enough for a few meals if we have that kind of luck, almost always 9inch minimum, on occasion we'll take an 8 depending on the day.

I'll keep what I feel like cleaning. If I don't feel like fileting, I'll keep enough for dinner that night then catch and release the rest of the day. My goal is to have my freezer full with my limit on the last day I go perchin on the ice.
what ever i feel like cleaning that day, rare i would want to clean fish for hours but do enjoy a good feast of perch. i would guess 10 to 15 on average outing

20 to 25, that being said I travel a few hours to get down to Simcoe, I generally take home enough for a few meals and that's sufficient for a couple or 3 weeks. There are occasions where I'll make the trip down just for the sake of getting out and have no intent on keeping anything that day unless I critically injure one or two. I have a 2yr old that would eat fish everyday if I let him and I'm hoping that one day he'll be like his old man and enjoy the sport as much as I do. I'm hoping that by being somewhat responsible now and not limiting out each and every time I go out he'll have that opportunity. I know that whole debate just gets people crazy on this site so I'm not even going to go there.

Fish limits...... a hot topic that will have the masses attacking you on this site if you are not on their side.
Limits are set by the MNR based on their testings, findings. I have no idea when they last tested in order to establish their current limits? If anglers want to catch and release, fine. Keep 13, 21, 33, 50, fine. There is no right or wrong here, just emotions with folks wanting the masses to side with their thoughts, again. MNR should not be treated as the enemy. The limits are set. Respect them.
Not everyone limits, and as one person wrote, they come from the US and if limits were dropped to 20-25 they would stop coming to Ontario and not spend their $$$. Several days ago I wrote that bluefin tuna counts have been set from 10 bluefin per day to 2 bluefin daily here. I have spoken to folks and they are just going to give up trips targeting bluefin and focus elsewhere, target freshwater, or just give up fishing. They simply won't spend the very $$$$ dollars to fish. The problems here can happen in other areas.
All we can hope is that MNR are on top of this hot topic and be proactive instead of reactive to dropping inventories when it becomes serious. Arguing and barking at each other based on zero facts isn't helping this site. When I read someone say that they have seen a lot of perch...... not very scientific. I used to dive a lot in Cooks Bay. I have seen a lot, but it means nothing.
By the way, the big pike, huge carp are there....... Learn.
Think out of the box, forget what is considered the norm, be creative, change that presentation. Scent??. Your choice. CPR?? Your call. Have fun!

my limit is solely based on the amount of fish i am willing to clean and i hate cleaning fish. the most ive taken home in one day is 12 and they were crappie. i b####ed and moaned the whole time while cleaning. the fish are safe from my knife.

I'll keep 10-15 per outing, enough for a good fry but living in Barrie and having access virtually year round means I never stock the freezer up too much. That being said I will take perch once a month or so. Can't resist me a good perch fry
