What are you guys getting Lakers and Whitefish on in the Haliburton area lakes?

I'm used to fishing Simcoe lakers with big swimbaits but I was told the fish in these lakes prefer a smaller presentation.

Plan was to use white tubes for the lakers, badboy style jigs for the whitefish and of course the trusty live minnow. Any advice?

Sonar is a check.

Looks like guys are more willing to give out the lakes they are fishing than general techniques!

I've caught whitefish and lakers on a Williams ice jig spoon before. I have only fished Haliburton lakes 3 times before. Dead sticking a minnow on a jig, hook/splitshot or spreader and tip up worked as well. really enjoyed fishing up there. Will definitely do more exploring in that area next winter.

My go to for the lakers is a white or pearl tube jig with metalic flecks... if allowed the second line I usually dead stick a live minnow significantly higher up in the water column, and be ready if you got a chaser on the jigginig line... As quite often they will give up the chase and take the easy offering. My personal experience is go BIG if the fish are at all agressive.... when you clean them and find 4 to 5 inch bait fish in the belly you'll know why.

My go to is a minnow tipped bad boy on bottom, another minnow 2 ft up. Jig in another hole close by to bring em in. Had a lot of great results with this method.

Never quite understood using the bad boys, how do you rig the minnow?

You can lip it with a stinger or stick the hook in the minnows mouth then about 3/4 of an inch, out through the back just like you would a small tube on a bad boyz.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Went out today and got three small lakers (14, 15, and 17 inches), no whitefish. Two of them hit small white jigs tipped with a minnow and one hit a gold spoon tipped with a small minnow. Overall a good day on the ice. Few of my buddies got lakers on deadstick rigs.

Fishin Fan, I tried using bad boys/lil foxee's today and got lots of chases but no hits. Are using them for lakers, whitefish or both?
