It's almost time to go fishing. Can't wait!!
I have to go to keele and hwy 7 from main and danforth for 6pm to pick up the rental gear. Definitely not looking forward to that drive. I am attching a picture of the lures that I gathered so far and will be using in addition to Minnows. I know I am missing slab grabbers but I am going to try to pick some up tomorrow.
Please let me know what you guy think. One last thing. Any thoughts on using a camping stove to heat the hut?
I am not sure what to do with the little tube jigs. Thought about using them with the forage minnows.
Thanks for all the help so far. I am taking my camera and tripod so I will be sharing pics of the adventure.

Those Gypsi jigs should be good for herring ( they like sparkle,) Maybe up size to the 2" jigging rap in perch color , the chartruse jig head with the brown flex tube should be good and last but not least , pickup a couple slab grabbers (Gold with red , silver with green.)..

Best of luck ..Let us know..

if you're going to drill a 10" hole please mark it after you're done. Its not fun falling in those. My boot doesn't fit in an 8" but 10" yes. Just grab a couple branches before you head out and stick it in the hole so people can see.

I was at JP last weekend and the walk was easy. Lots of ice out there.

So, here goes the report!
Well, there isn't much to report. We picked up some minnows from some bait shop at Lake Drive and Lorne street. At first, the woman didn't want to sell to us because we weren't her regulars. I said this is only my second time out this year and first time at Jackson's Point. After a whole story about how she is getting low on minnows and when she gets low she only sells to her regulars. Anyway, she sold us two scoops and we were on our way.
We were out on the ice by 6:30am. Our first attempt was straight out about a 100 meters from the harbour. Drilled two hole about 50 feet apart. Checked both with the flasher for about 20 mins. Didn't mark anything but tried with a buckshot to entice anything in the neighbourhood to come check us out but nada.

Then we drove around the harbour to the west, yes, my uncle convinced me to drive the crv on the ice. I followed a path of what looked like solid packed snow and drove towards the area where there were about 6-7 shelters set up. We couldn't make to them and got stuck, of course. So, I said this looks like a good spot. Haha
Again we drilled two holes 50 feet apart and checked with the flasher. The hole closed to the 'truck' was showing some activity. We set the shelter and heater and every and fished there for a few hours. Caught a couple of ok sizers early then about 10-12 dinks the rest of the day. Barely any activity on the flasher the whole day.
I think my uncle was worried about the truck the whole time we were fishing. We started to dig it out around 1pm and wasn't making any progress. I called an outfitter to see if they would be able to help us out. They said no but referred us to Eugene. Before Eugene could come out a few guys who were fishing but also not catching about 100 feet away came and gave us a hand and freed us. We packed up soon after and headed home.

Despite all the hardwork I put in with the planning and executing the trip and lack of fish and getting stuck I still had a great time. Not sure about my uncle, though.

I want to say a big thank you to everyone for their expertise, input and spport. This is a great forum!!
Time to see how everyone else did today.
Ps. Not sure how to rotate the picture but you guys get the idea. Haha

It was a light biting day yesterday. I was sight fishing in 18ft or so and saw lots of jumbos swim by. They would bump the bait, but not really interested in biting. I managed to catch enough for a feed. Good to see them at least. Maybe today will be better.

Thanks for reporting trip. Great for posting stuck vehicle - will give some a bit of thought before heading out on ice.

Thanks
