Got up to Joe around 10:30. Man was it cold!

Got out to our spot and the wind was howling. We packed light, so no shelter. Ya this wouldn't last long. First drop, got a bite. Looking good. Then nothingfor about a half hour. Was just about to say let's leave. Spring bobber lifts. Feel some weight, set the hook. 3lber on the ice. Ok let's stay. 10 minutes later spring bobber again. Reeling in some weight. Buddy comes to move the ducer, I say aw man it's hooked backwards. No it's not, it's my first ling. about 4 lbs and UGLY. Cool. Action kept up for me, my buddy got a few small ones but I brought up 5 trout, had lots of misses and my ling. packed up at 2 to thaw out.

Frostbite was worth it!

Regards, ff.

Cold doesn't even start to describe it. My fingertips are tingling. I got some minor frost bite. I'd reel in a fish and have to wait 5 minutes before I could work my hands to get the line back down. U had to be crazy brave to be out today. Luckily we work outside so we are acclimatized to these conditions. Yes I'm sure Dale is kicking back on the island! Slip floats would have frozen every 30 seconds today.

Regards, ff.

My fishing buddy took it home to clean and he's going to take half. I've never cleaned one before and he's the fisherman out of the two of us. Look forward to trying it though. Heard it tastes like lobster? And yes, painfully cold! Beardcicles all day! And finally got some good pics. Been putting a hand warmer on the phone in my pocket. Works great!

Hand warmer on on the phone? Wow!!!

And for those of use who use the Note series - two could fit on back. Or use the toe warmers as they come with adhesive tape!

Great idea!!!

For ling, wait until late march/early april and go out around 6 pm. By midnight you should have about 50 ling on the ice with 2 or 3 guys.

Ling was definitely a surprise. We had been commenting on all the times we've been on Jo and never caught one or any other species but trout on that lake.

As far as targeting them I hear it's best at night in lowlight conditions. They are on the bottom and deep. They start to move shallower in March to spawn. Minnows or stinky bait on bottom from what I've read.
