QUOTE (Big ole Pike @ Feb 25, 2015 - 05:29 pm)
I have considered an all nighter a few times , but is there a good fish bite at night out there? I shorefish in the GTA a lot bymyself , but it is in better conditions. I will pull about 25 allnighters for salmon from late July till it ends.My wife would be worried about me out there by myself all night for sure. If anybody does it this year for the first time , let us know how it went .Is there monsters out there?
I usually have good luck with whities @ night.
The outfitter I go out with, drops us off at the hut @ 4pm. Both times I have hooked a laker just before or right after sundown. Got one @ 6pm and one @ 7pm. After that just whities.

Great to be out by yourself but like they say let someone know where you went. Stupid fall... etc, I sneezed Friday just starting to move never know good to have a buddy.. My back has never locked up like this.

When you get to be a old dog something small can cause a major issue. I got code names for all my salmon spots. My son always gets my list where I'm heading that night. If something changes I text him. He doesn't even know where my hut is out on Simcoe. Hates icefishing. So if I do an night fish I'm going to have to have a plan with someone.

I'm usually out on my own and it's the titts! It's always good to let someone know whereabouts on the Lake you'll be for the day along with a time frame... Just in case!

I used to have a couple of friends that came fishing, but they cut back to 1 or 2 days a season , so I fish alone , the only draw back now is .. if the conditions are bad eg. snowing hard or deep snow I hesitate on going out . Nothing spells fun like a break down or getting buried by your self

Common sense says that you check the weather before an overnighter alone... But has anyone been out in a pop up an had a bad storm blow in unexpected? My pegs seem secure, but I'd imagine a good punch from mother nature would peel me naked without issue?
I've had my roof pop down, and a wall pop in... not tied down with a rope, and it was nothing insane.

I fish alone a lot. I only fish with one buddy and haven't been out with him for 5 weeks because the last time he pulled out a deck of cards after we got are lines in the water because he didn't want to be bored. I am there to fish, after I refused he played on his phone for 3 hours while I jigged. The told me he was gonna stop going out with me if we were going to get skunked all the time. So I decided to be a lone wolf.
Just make sure you got all safty gear and like everyone said let loved ones know where you will be

It's refreshing to read all these honest comments / concerns. We fish because we have a love for it. I hope you all are able to hook up with folks in your area, matching your schedules, really want to fish, etc.
It's great to hear how you let others know where you are, general concerns, respect for the giant Popsicle, etc.

Exo, whenyou go out at 4 when do they usually come pick you up?
Cheers
Overnight is 4pm - 8am.
Wow, that is a marathon shift.
LoL. The other weekend we went and perched from the am till 4, then we switched out to the laker hut till 8am the next morning.
No sleep for 30 something hours. Worked the night before till midnight and had to leave around 4am to drive up there, so we didn't bother sleeping. I slept for an hour in the hut... Long drive home lol

Totally agree with you.
At times I take breaks to check phone, check LSO, add post to LSO . . .
When I'm on ice I'm either moving to location or fishing . . . .

I like to go by myself but still sometimes go with an old fishing buddy. I would not stay overnight and if alone. I have done it a couple of times but that's no fun if you are by yourself and I advise to you it is not even worth of trying. When alone at night it seems your watch has stopped or slowed down ,, so boring.
