I finally convinced my girlfriend to go ice fishing with me and I want to show her a good time. I would really like to hook into some trout. I haven't decided between North pigeon or Gull lake. I want her to catch fish size is important but not getting skunked is even more so.

If anyone fishes North Pigeon in the winter and knows a good spot to start can you help me out.. or PM me? I have fished there for years in the summer and know there are alot of panfish and SMB. stocking records say there is lakers there as well. So since it is a small lake I figured the trout would be easier to find..

My problem is I don't know where to start should I start by deep bay rd. or should I got to the far back where the lake gets more narrow. Or should I go to the middle of the lake?

I want her to have fun and enjoy our evening with a glass of wine and a trout dinner. Not try to explain why I drove her two hours to freeze her toes lol.

I am planning to use a size 0 williams gold or silver tipped with a pinhead shiner with a small trailer treble. Probably just off bottom but should I be in 10, 20, 40,80 ft. I tried to find a depth chart no luck.

I should probably take her to deep bay on gull but I went last week and caught one small guy that I chose to give another shot. And I don't want that to happen again while she out there with me my pride is on the line!!

I'll be leaving tomorrow at 6 am kinda of the spur of the moment thing happening she said yes so I am riding it all the way before she backs out. So hopefully someone can be kind enough to point me in the right direction thank you. Or if you know any other lakes in the area that have parking and easy access to the lake with consistant fishing around minden/Norland area. Would consider that too. The smaller the lake the better.

Thanks guys in advance,

I will post a report at the end of the trip.

Best of luck to both of you!

Just make sure you have the equipment for her to stay warm, especially if this is her first time out!!!

So I went to north pigeon instead of gull. Ended the day with three lake trout caught one released and about 3-4 other hit and misses.

My girlfriend got one and I got the other two they weren't big but still good fun! Happy how it turned out we didn't get skunked she stayed warm in my pop up with my propane heater.

all in all a success.

Unfortunately, my cell phone has deceased and so I have no images.. thats the only bad part of the day watching your phone flutter down the hole as you try to teach your girl how to hold a laker lol. w/e worth it!
