Hey folks. A buddy and I will be headed to Gull on Sunday, looking to hit the main lake. Any one interested in meeting/ joining us for a fish PM me, and we'll sort out details. Since Gull is a single line lake, I figure the more the merrier. Plus, I hear the deep freeze is supposed to be taking a break on Sunday too...

Thanks for the offer but I'm taking advantage of last day of fishing BOQ for walleyes on Sunday.
Hey Bluenote, I was planning on heading there on the 4th. Am I missing something? does it shut down early ? Or is it just the last day you can make it out to Quinte

Just checked MNR zone 20 fishing regulations. Last day for walleye is 1 March. This Sunday is last day.
Yes can fish for pike or perch - I'm not as interested in them as walleye so will go north. Perhaps Gull or Kashagawigamog . ..
For clarification - people should always check the fish regulations themselves - not take others' word . . .

Damn thanks bluenote. I would have found out when I called for a guide. I've never been to Bay of Quinte so wasn't going to go without some sort of direction. I here the ice out there can be treacherous at times. I also don't target walleye through the ice either. Strictly Lakers for me. Was hoping to get an education on some giant walleye hunting. Will have to wait till next year I suppose.
Sorry for hijacking your thread on gull lake!! my appologies.
My experience with gull lake is small fish, lots of them but not the trophy I'm looking for. I've been 3 times this year and was successful all three times in three different locations on the lake. Just nice eaters but not able to eat because of the slot size. Good lucjk to you those who make the journey.
I think I will hit Joe on saturday and maybe Simcoe on Sunday. We'll see though, it'll be a game time situation lol

Now I have to stay in town this weekend. Hoping to hit Gull on the 6th or 7th. Invite is still open, just a week later. Tight lines to all who get out this weekend!

Went to gull the Sunday that just passed, we fished Deep Bay. Fished from 10:00am - 6:30ish pm. The day was a write off.. I caught one lake trout between the two of us out there.
The worst part was the lake trout was about 12 in. and I caught it as soon as my minnow hit bottom. (55ft) I reeled my line up about a foot off the bottom and I felt it slightly heavier so I brought it back up thinking I snagged a stick pulling the bait off the bottom. (didn't set the hook or any thing there was no fight at all just slight weight coming up kind off awkwardly the feeling you get when you reel in a branch. Wasn't till the lure was at the top of the water did I see what I caught was living.
I almost didn't even want to have caught it as the fight was so lame I was disappointed that the only fish I caught was a lazy bugger.. maybe he knew what my lure was and wanted to end it all so went up for the ride. . Lucky for him he wasn't even a fillet and his fins were covered with worms so off he went on his miserable way.
Then back to nothingness as the day progressed. I didn't see much action out that day I think the fishing was slow all around. People were packing up and moving around or packing it in often. I think I heard one person yell in excitement but then silence.
I even met up with a nice older gentlemen fishing in 30 FOW who had a cottage in the area and said his last trip was four decent lakers in a day. But that day he got skunked I believe along with his buddies. Depressing..
Oh well me and the miss's are going up there tomorrow morning to try Miners bay (the opposite side) I will post an update on the day if anyone is interested.
Not sure about the main lake but since I will be pulling my gear on foot in an oversized laundry basket at that. (because I refuse to pay 80+ dollars for a sled) Needless to say I won't be walking out far.

Hey BAA101,
I had the exact same results except I was using an ultra light in 55' of water. Key that day was dead on bottom twitching 1-2" only and keeping contact with the bottom. Only caught the one 12" laker as well but missed a couple with the UL flex lol time for a longer UL. Oh ps I think light line (4#) was key as well cause Dad beside me didn't get bit using some heavier gear.

I'm hoping to get to Gull on March 14th so please put up a report. I have never fished there before so looking forward to it.
Like wise Npeterson! If you see a young guy on his own or with a couple others on snowshoes don't be shy to come by especially if I'm on my own lol. Most likely will have some bright blue and orange jacket on or lounging in a sweater if its warm. Likely headed out from Deep Bay to a point.
