Just wondering how many people here head out on the ice alone. I have been up a few times this year with friends/gf to rented huts.
I am debating going up the last week of the season for a possible 24hr fishing trip during the week. It being the end of the season and all, looking to end it on a high note. Friends can't get the time off work and the wife is fished out. I am still unsure weather to stick for a day fish or go for the day and night.
Be a long night im sure, but pretty sure I can survive. Music, cell phone and fish/bite alarms in case I need an hour of zzz's.

I enjoy fishing a lone time to time. To be honest I go sometimes and not tell anyone that fishes. I let family know I am out in case I do not return! But fishing a lone helps me work my skills without someone telling me I should do it differently. Find I hook into more fish... but to share the experience is only the thing that lacks.

I fish Alot by myself around home (niagara) and i love it. Turn the radio on low, sit back and relax. I only have one good friend that takes ice fishing as serious as i do but he cant get out too much due to work etc. So alot of the times i find myself having to entertain, or accomodate other friends. Example-lending out rods, balancers, pickerel rigs etc which gets really frustrating because i dropped so much money lastyear for ice fishing and ive got all these 'friends' who want to go, but wont buy any gear. Its frustrating. I would never take one of these 'friends' to simcoe because out there i take it very seriously and the only way to do that is to be able to use all of my gear, not have my buddies using it. So if i needed to i would rather go alone than with somebody who wants a free ride. However i dont think id want to do an overnighter by myself, but i would definetly do it if need be. My gear and myself is all i need. A picture still says a thousand words.

I do tons of fishing by myself as well I'm not the type to wait around on someone so if their not ready I'm going alone and having a good time just bring some sort of music or radio and you'll be set

I do both, and both fishing alone and with friends have their perks. Fishign with someone gives you someone to talk to and someone to share the experience with. However, fishing alone really gives you the opportunity to relax and to fish the way you want to fish. I also find that when I bring buddies along, especially less experienced people, I feel pressured to get them on fish, and I feel bad if I dont. But thats just me. When I am on my own, no pressure.

Good responses. I am going up Sunday with the wife for a day hut. See how we make out. I'm still undecided if I will do the overnight myself or not. Guess I will decide early next week

I go out alone all the time. Sometimes I even get upset when my family does want to come as it means I have to make a bunch of compromises I wouldn't have to on my own (departure time, location, length of time out, species targeted etc). While I do love taking the family with me, and also greatly enjoy the company/camaraderie/learning experiences of fishing with friends, sometimes I like just being out alone and accountable to no one but myself.
I ended up going out alone with an operator yesterday when changing weather conditions took their toll on the trip I had planned with a friend. I have gone out at night alone a number of times, but never a full overnighter. With an operator would be one thing, but I know my wife worries too much and can't really sleep if she knows I am still out on the water without any backup should something go wrong.

I usually go out with my good fishing buddies but last weekend I fished alone for the first time on the ice. Believe it or not it was actually a very productive day. I was able to focus a lot easier on fishing with no distractions.
Gotta bring tunes though or I start getting a serious case of cabin fever.

I did an overnighter alone in my new Otter flip.
No big deal -heat heat on low. Big problem specific to that location was increasing water levels on top of the ice and rack for laying down wasn't too comfortable. I'd like to do some more. Especially when back woods area . . .
Generally I'm good fishing with few others or by self.

I have considered an all nighter a few times , but is there a good fish bite at night out there? I shorefish in the GTA a lot bymyself , but it is in better conditions. I will pull about 25 allnighters for salmon from late July till it ends.My wife would be worried about me out there by myself all night for sure. If anybody does it this year for the first time , let us know how it went .Is there monsters out there?
