I don't know the conditions of the lake. For some reason I booked for the 15 of Jan this year , I usually go the first week of Jan. We will be lucky if everything is a go for the 15th. Let's hope for good ice then.

I talked to Jeff a couple of days ago, and he thinks everything should be a go for the 15th. Let's hope he is right. Merry Christmas to everyone.

c/p from another site.
For all you wondering, was on the ice yesterday on the south shore measured mostly 4"-5". But did find thin ice -2" 200 yards off shore. Don't want you's to panic we still have lots of time if it stays below 0, and we don't get a lot of snow.I will be going out again on the 26th, will up date again. Merry Christmas to all.

Merry Christmas Jeff

c/p

West Nipissing Police Service would like to advise the public that as of December 29th 2011 safe ice has yet to form on Lake Nipissing and surroundings Lakes and Rivers.

On This day two snowmobilers from Sturgeon Falls area attempting to cross Lake Nipissing, broke through the ice near Iron Island and managed to swim to safety and walk back to mainland.

The West Nipissing Police Service is asking the public to use proper and extreme safety precautions before venturing onto frozen surfaces.

Although climate has been favorable over the past few days, we want to advise that proper ice as yet to form on Lake Nipissing and area waters.

Thank you.
West Nipissing Police Service.

I didn't know you were a policeman Jeff. Thanks for that report. I am also glad you found a way to stay good and dry. With the weather that you guys are getting in the next few days, I would think the ice is coming along quite well. Have you talked to your bait supplier about the minnow supply?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Made the trip out yesterday 3 km's in south bay (eastside) found 5"-9" ice all white ice. I was able to put my flagline in and will start hauling SOME SMALLER huts today. Further out it goes to just 2.5"-3" which was open-water only a few days ago. I can taste the fresh walleye dinner tomorrow.
