Excellent picture.  Took me back 64 years ago when my father took me fishing for perch.  Been doing it ever since.

What a happy little boy.  Priceless pic.

He loves to get out. HIs species list is pretty good. A laker in the boat (with a star wars rod. Lost at the boat) whitey on the stick earlier this winter, walleye at the cottage, and some pretty good perch. I've moved my hut for the last couple of weeks just so I can take him out. Almost daily. I hope he's hooked for life. Seem to have put it in a good spot. Getting tons of big perch.

Terrific picture!

So much fun!!!

Who took the photo? Granddad or Mom?

Are you catching herring as well?

Thanks

Bac'k to Simi589's question - No there are no fish left in Simcoe, Nothing to see here let's move along! Anybody wanting to catch fish should head to Erie.

Yes back to original question.... Still tons of big perch in the lake. Andy hit the nail on the head. Habitat has changed, so have the fish's habits. Case in point, whitefish. We're catching them in places we never would have fished 20 years ago. A couple years ago, everybody thought there was a big die off..... Not so. That was one of my best years in a while. Just had to change my fishing habits and think outside the box.
For perch, I only fish for them at certain times of the year. Fall and spring, and do very well for large jumbos. I don't waste my time during summer and mid winter as the big ones are not really grouped up.
Think outside the box, and you'll find the fish. The lake has changed, now we need to change the way we fish. Just my $.02.
