Made it out Sunday morning off BBP with a buddy from the city who had never been ice fishing in his life.

He soft water fishes with me all the time.

I had spent the week rethiunking the packing of the quad with my gear and put together a really easy auger holder for the front.. picked up two of those rubber bumber for the front of a trailer for the bow of the boat...they are v-shaped black rubber. Drilled a hole down the middles and bolted them to a piece of good hardwood flooring and then bungeer to the from rack. Add the hit and I am set.

The sled did not tip once and we were going around 25-35 KPH. The ride out and backl was great, and driving was not that hard at all.

Set up in about 110FOW and the weather was amazing. no wind and not cold at all, and only got better as the day went on.

My sister and brother in law met us out there on their sleds late morning and it became a hang out, jig some spoons and eat/chat for longer than expected.
It was just such a great day finally.

Oh yeah, fish.....

We had some really crazy action, chases almost right away. My buddy was having trouble with the technique for some reason and kept stopping his retreive.
I was really keeping my lure out of the way because I wanted him to catch.

I had a few hits and he soon figured out I knew what to do here..lol

He ended up going like 0-4 because he would horse em at the hole...lol

I landed this 7-8lb one. It gave a really nice fight and wanted my swammer from the minute it started to rise....it was on a charge.

My buddy was ready to land it, as he had the double drilled hole....
I say, I am going to bob it's head through the hole, you grad it at the tail and pull it up on the ice.

This fish get close, it decides to head back down and it's tail comes into the hole...my buddy grabs the tail and fish starts the thrash...he holds on, with no glove like Tarzan hold an aligator by the tail.

He actually gets the thing in, through almost 2 feet of ice backwards.

quick pic and back it goes....

Was an amazing day with good company...standing out about 3-4KMs on ice is a weird, yet fun experience.

ALSO.....the guy i am borrowing my ride from has informed me he also has a nice tow behind trailer for the quad that should actually fit my stuff...
OK, this is just getting to good.

Out again next weekend, I am mind setting myself for no more crazy cold.

The knuckleheads....

nice fish! Hope you got him hooked on fishing hard water. He will be itching for next hard water season once he feels the good old Laker chase and fights!

Good report! Always good to take someone out for their first ice fishing experience - especially when the weather is warm like yesterday.
