INNISFIL - South Simcoe police, along with the Town of Innisfil, will be stepping up patrols of Lake Simcoe in the Gilford area.

Several reports have been received from area residents, complaining of excessive noise, drinking, illegal parking and littering.

The areas of Gilford Road and Shore Acres Drive are popular access points for ice fishermen and snowmobile enthusiasts.

Police constables will be setting up RIDE programs to combat drinking and sledding.

Ice fishermen are reminded that the consumption of alcohol is strictly forbidden on area waterways. A fish hut is not considered a residence or a private place under the legislation, and those caught consuming alcohol while on the lake could be ticketed, and their alcohol confiscated.

As a result of increased activity at lake access points, town staff are focusing on increased enforcement of bylaws and public education initiatives.

Fishermen must have a valid fishing licence, and abide with catch limits. Officers with Ontario's Ministry of Natural Resources conduct spot checks at random times on Lake Simcoe.

Those operating snow machines must be properly licensed, and wear the required safety equipment. Flotation gear is recommended as the ice thickness varies.

An emergency rescue on Lake Simcoe puts emergency responders at the same risks as those who need help, and could result in a fine as well as a bill from the municipality for the rescue.

Sportsmen are asked to have respect for local residents and conduct themselves in an orderly and respectful manner at all times. Garbage is to be taken away and vehicles should be parked legally. [B]

This country is getting more an more b####y. Complain about every little thing. There are some idiots out there I know. BUT this is the Shyte that changes everything in smaller towns for visitors. Just put a gate around your town and say stay out. For the idiots with no respect, I hope the enforcers get them. Happy fishing

Your report touched several points that I totally agreed:
- The city and YRP must act if there are complains
- We have the right/privilege to fish when/where the law allowed
- Drinking while driving, riding or in a hut were never allowed
- Residents must put up with some inconsiderate numbuts such as blocking partial driveways, reving the sled engines for excessive noise are unnecessary

*** We must treat all the way we want to be treated then we have peace but unfortunately, there always some idiots out there spoiled all for us law/rule obeying fishermen so there we all gonna get it.

Let alone many garbage left on ice such as beer cans, food wrappers and many others that I picked up for them, I am no garbageman just a regular fisherman.

Those two residents that charges for parking will make a ton of $ if public parking is taken away! Might be a good investment for someone looking to buy a home close to the lake!

Ive seen some problems there on weekends some guys are a little out of control at times and there is a large volume of traffic there its good their addressing some issues. Ive heard of assault charges and seen lots of litter. The regulars don't bend the rules I think its the people come up once and let loose makes everyone look bad its good the police clean it up protects everyone else from losing access.

I would not buy any property that has public access beside or close to,this includes the city, where cut throughs are common to access the main transit routes,this access has multiple operators working from there,makes for a busy access point.I wonder if the other areas with public access have the same issues?

I was fishing Innisfil 2 weeks ago and came back to my LEGALLY parked car to see a notice under my wiper. Crap it's a ticket I thought, nope it was a flyer from a local resident. Reminding me of local regulations and by laws. I complied with everyone. Maybe my car was thrown in with the others? Looked around, nope, not one single car out of about 30 were doing anything remotely against the local bylaws. Keep your flyer and try not to litter next time I say!
