I have not been to rice lake for probably 15 years and at that time it was my understanding that there were no pike in rice lake. I was just at my local bass pro shop over the weekend in niagara on the lake and i was speaking to one of the employees and we were talking about rice lake becuase i am heading there the week after bass opens and i was actually hoping to catch some muskie. the person from bass pro said there are not alot of muskie in rice lake anymore and there are alot of pike is this true?

Thanks elrik I was hoping that was the case considering anywhere I looked online it did not say anything about Pike being in Rice Lake. Also i figured someone who lives in works in the niagara region probably did not know all that much about rice lake.

Don't want to stir the shyt but there are pike in rice lake . A friend of mine has a cottage on the lake near bewdley and has caught a few over the years, they have had the cottage for twenty five years plus and fishes it hard. He believes they are coming threw the locks and he also here's more stories of them being caught as well but still thinks there far and few between sightings!!!!! I have fished rice lake and have never seen one but I have never seen garr pike in there either but they have been documented in rice over the last few years........

I can also confirm pike are in rice lake.. Want to know how I know? I caught one near White Island last summer. And yes I know what a muskie looks like and what a pike looks like. As posted above they are coming through the locks would be my guess. Lake seymour is loaded with pike which is only a lock away from rice. It's only a matter of time before all lakes along the Trent will have pike unfortunatly

absolutely there has been random claims of pike in the lake for several years now. Whether they are accurate or not, they are few and far between. The niagara BPS employee made the claim that there are NOT a lot of musky and ARE a lot of pike. I don't think there is anyone with any experience on the lake that would agree with that statement. Any pike would be rare, and not more prominent in the system than musky. Reading the reports from rice for last year it seemed to be a banner year for musky, so bps employee should be

I catch pike in the trent - 1 lock downstream of Rice Lake and have heard of many people catching pike on this section of river As for pike in Rice Lake - from my view it is certainly possible - but never seen. Last year my brother and I got a musky each in Rice. I've not heard anything apart from previous post on pike caught in Rice.
MNR has started posting the warning signs about difference between musky and pike in all areas.
As for Gar pike - I've seen them in the trent and not yet in Rice.

i haven't met a single person from either Sail or BPS that knows anything about anything. In fact its hard to believe anyone when they talk about fishing. Its like taking golf advice from anyone from Golf Town. Go there if you need something they have. Don't ask questions. I'm still unsure who are bigger liars, golfers or fisherman. lol

What about the tiger muskellunge IF they "pike"are in there you eventually there will be interbreeding ,pike and muskie and end up tiger muskellunge so identifying the difference's is key .....

I haven't seen any pike either. Lots of musky as we all know. I have spoken to people who have claimed to have caught them though. The owner of the resort across the lake from my place called me up to his office one day last fall to show me a pic of an American guest who caught a large "pike" the day before. It was clearly a musky. There are the odd pike showing up however. I would NOT want to be a hammer-handle sized pike in Rice Lake. I would think nature would take its course and it would need to obtain considerable size or else end up in the belly of a large 'Lunge!
I will harvest every single pike I catch if I do indeed catch one god forbid. Could be worse...think Asian Carp....

Hey Broosky
Bucktails on the weededges in June should be very productive. Use hot colors like firetiger, chartruese, etc. and you are in business. Burn them in too - speed can be a big trigger in summer.

I've even got a jointed X rap I'd throw around. It's a size 14 I think. I like a crank bait. Big shad rap Or a swim bait, hard plastic, two joints. A Storm Kickin Stick size 16
