So I made plans with a friend who has never ice fished before to go up north for some lakers, with hopes of getting him into some nice fish. Earlier in the week the forecast was calling for decent temps and little wind. Check the weather again the night before and the wind forecast was looking pretty dicey but we decided to go anyway. Up at 4, grabbed bait and then up the 400 we went to one of my favorite greaser haunts. After a fun 45 minute walk to my waypoint, we set up the hut, punched some holes and started fishing. About a half hour into the day im into a good one, got her up to the hole and got a good look at her but my stinger hook gets caught on the ice and the fish comes off. About 20 minutes later i look outside and our deadstick rod is getting crushed by something! My buddy goes over and sets the hook and after a short fight he landed his first laker! Nothing big but its a start lol The next hour was pretty slow so I dropped down some chum and within 15 minutes I was into another good one, this time she wasnt getting away as both the jig hook and stinger were burried in her sweet greasy lips! The rest of the day was pretty slow with the odd school of small fish coming through. Cant wait for these upcoming warmer temps the fishing should only get better from here on! cheers!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIDZeHKDA4c
