What am I doing wrong?

I've been out twice this winter on Simcoe for whitefish/lake trout as opposed to going up North or for perch, and I've even bought a flasher to help, but now I just seem to have the added bonus of watching the fish reject the offering.

On the bottom I've set up with a swedish pimple, a williams gold, a plain jig head... all tipped with a dead minnow with some light jigging but all the fish seem to do is come in and inspect it before leaving. Are you supposed to jig more when they come in or just stop moving completely?

I've also had lakers chase my white swimbait up the water column but every single time they give up.

Is there some sort of technique I'm missing or is this just a combination of slow year and bad luck?

I'm really hoping to catch my first Simcoe laker before the end of the season rather than always driving up to muskoka for them.

Loads of good info on this site on catching lakers and white fish - suggest reading through them . . .

I message that jumps out at me is that for most people it takes a few times - read lots of effort - before start catching.

Went last season without a fish.....try working a humpback creeper on bottom....very soft bite...gotta be quick on the hook set

i tend to reel slow at first as the trout follows reel faster keeping you swim bait above the fish he should commit

Timing and technique. It takes time to learn them. Keep trying.

Sounds like you re doing it right to me.

The Laker bite has been slower this year forsure, but the fish seem more aggressive(?)

Last year it was low riser after low riser.....
