Hi all. Tried to go out off Pleasant Beach today. 20 minutes to get over dunes on beach. 1/2 hour got me to the barge. Got out to area between barge and Point Abino.. Three steps, break thru crust, three steps to get up on top. 1 foot of powder beneath. Made it out 1 Klik. Ice boulder field. 2-3 feet of snow, no crust. Turned around. Even worse, sun weakened crust. Broke thru at every step. Gave the old ticker a real work out. Headed to old canal (Dain City). Tried six or seven spots. Nada. Headed to Sugarloaf Harbour. Same. Nada. Tomorrow, maybe Morgan's Point. Ice looks not too bad. Wish me luck.

Appears that you got the workout today!

What fish were you targeting?

Mostly jumbo perch. Did fantastic in years gone by. Even got a 2 lb. whitefish last year. Heard that they got a few rainbows closer to P. Abino. Always found 60 to 65 ft. was good. Even a ling or two. (Spawning now). Used to get lots of perch off Morgan`s Point. Try it tomorrow if legs hold out. If your fair skinned and bald like me, don`t forget SPF-15, got a really good sunburn today. Didn`t need a coat or hat. Wifey is covering me with Noxema as I type this. Good fishin`

There's a trail cut out of abino that you can get out on. The whole inside of the bay North of the pt is nasty shove all the way to Fort erie. I wouldn't think you'd have any better conditions out of Morgans witb less traffic in that area. Good luck

I have been out of Morgans Point 6 times in the last 3 weeks. Follow the short trail right off the end of Morgans Point road, after that the ice is smooth and very easy travel. Unfortunately we have a total of 10 fish in 6 times out.......4 guys each time. The max depth we can get to is 52 and we have fished everywhere in between.
We have fished east and west of the point with similar results.....very sporatic at best.
Honestly, I have not heard of any real good reports out of anywhere, from Williams to Abino. I heard one guy got 60 off Pinecrest last Saturday, and 30 feet from him, a guy got 10. So who knows how the story goes. Just not great fishin!!!! Maybe the water is too damn cold and the fish are in 70+ feet of water.........maybe it will be a real good spring!!

Back at it again. Just got in. Been runnin' and gunnin' since 8:30. Morgans Point this time. Really easy access and walking. Small patches of shove but acres of leads between. Even the pressure ridges were no sweat, just walk over them. Got out to 54 ft of water. SSE of point. Punch hole, fish 10 min, walk 10 min. Punched 20+ holes. Search lures, live bait, dead bait , heads, tails, artificials. Nope. Had whole lake to myself. Not a living thing above the ice, not a living thing under it. Put the Vex down every hole. Nuttin', nada, zilch. Never marked a thing. Beautiful day. Fished in shirt sleeves all day. I'd scratch my head as what to do next but the sunburn still smarts. Maybe try again Thursday. Good luck out there. Be safe.

Great report. I have never fished lake Erie in the winter but always wanted to try it. Too bad you didn't catch anything though. I think the fish left for the USA.
