SNOWMOBILE INSURANCE, no insurance

my friend does not have insurance on his snowmobile and i was wondering how much of a fine he can get into with the cops if he get caught !!!! WOOT WOOT !!!

Probably more than what the sled is worth. If it's only on his own property, no problem, everywhere else, get insurance.

he said fine is same as for a car ie: $5000 +

You would only get the max fine if you were in some type of accident. The charge you would get is failing to provide proof of insurance. Most likely a 180 dollar charge.

I was told You don't need insurance to drive on a lake , just don't drive on roads or public land

Lakes are generally federally regulated. Insurance is provincial rule for their jurisdiction?
