We keep seeing these threads about guys wanting a sled.
Are they clueless or are we?
They don't mention budget and then they don't reply to our posts?
Are you spending $500 or $15,000?
I have read my owners manual and I don't see anywhere that says this is a cheap sport.
Rant over ......

And what expect to pay for yearly maintenance / repairs . . .

What would be the average cost to rebuild a sled engine 2 stroke from bottom up?

Proper job from bottom up your looking at $2000 - $4000 dollars depending on what other work has to be completed along with the motor. Crank , bearings etc .

Buddy just blew 2011 800r. Patch up job costed him 2600. He got quoted from St. Onge and learherdales $ 3500 from the bottom end up. Plus tax!

Two strokes are finicky motors if you don't donthe proper Maintence on them. Keeping the machine greasd epically on the pto side of the crank is very important epically on the ski doo. I also turned up the oil pump on it. Rather be burning more oil than no oil at all !

Clueless-somewhat hence the question. When buying something used there is always a risk involved, hence the question. You don't know my cash flow so who are you to insinuate I'm asking this question to see if I can afford it. I was asking for worst case scenario. Just like any hobby it's all about $$$$$$$$ "You want to play if have to pay" If the repetitive posts bother you so much the answer is simple DON'T READ THEM. Thanks to everyone else who responded without the attitude. Rant over

After listening to the countless guys beating the sh8 outta their machines reving like "Look what I can do!!!" ala Stuart MAD TV... I am now under the impression not to buy anything sporty until I want to buy virtually new.

I am a plastic fantastic street bike rider/track rider, and honestly, I would not want to buy a any motorized machine off 90% of the snow machine riders that I see... mash the throttle up and down like goats... reminds me of the ricers reving their engines and bouncing it off the redline... Thank god for newer safety features I guess, or they would all blow their engines. lol

I understand you need to play the throttle when riding over different surface conditions, but not that much.

My rant, hate me for it, but hell, to the goofs reving their machines like monkeys overdosing on bananas... I hope you blow your engine!

OP - Good luck on finding a great used machine. If you see banana peels in the garage... walk away.

I'm not buying a snow machine.

My view from last 4 years on ice - two types of machines available;

Those that drive by at a decent distance and speed - can barely hear them -took me a while - four strokes,

Those that fly by near at high speeds with a high pitched whine that can hear 1 lake over - 2 stroke.

Maybe I'm prejudiced - I've a 4 stroke auger - so much quieter . . .

LOL, I was always under the impression... 2 Stroke riders are too poor to buy a 4. Hence, the punk riders are the ones you hear acting like morons.

BTW kid... your snow machine going 60kmh sounding like it's about to explode... is SLOW.

HAHAHA!
