So my buddy and I were having a beverage earlier and he asked if you can catch Lakers and Whities in Cooks Bay, ala Gilford. I said I don't think you will find them there, they are further north, deep water etc.

Now I I'm sure its been discussed before, but, without searching for the info I will just ask.

Has anybody every caught these species in Southern Cooks Bay?

I say no….but hey, what do I know!

I have two back to back weekends on Lakers in Cooks Bay. Trying for my triactor tomorrow. Not in Gilford but not far from either. A guy got a huge laker in 33ft of water recently on the east side. So i think its not impossible, but someone can get lucky only at this time of the ice season as alot of fish have moved in shallower. I got both my lakers last two weeks fishing for perch. So good luck!

Some watch theblueicereport would see something called the "Heavy Hanger Hole". The guys claim its in cooks bay. They catch wf/lt before kbay freezes over. First week of January they haul in fish from cooks bay. I do not know where it is or if they are full of shet. But that is where they claim they catch them.

The answer is yes, my friend caught one white fish two weeks ago while he was fishing for Jumbo in cooksbay, location east side of cooks bay, he get on to the ice from the end of Rayners Rd.

My neighbour told me there is a trough and they used to have a hut over it to catch lots of white fish.

That "trough" is also productive during spring and summer............

Been catching herring in cooks for a while now. Yesturday caught 3 smelt in cooks. Lake trout and whitefish eat herring and smelt. So if fish follow the food not that far fetch however Gilford may be a little low would try further north take a look at lake contour maps visualize a route from the main lake into cooks and you may see the funnel that will lead them in.
