My brother and I drove up this past Saturday morning to Keswick at 5am. Very nice drive up on the 401 and 404. Much better then the old way of highway 48. We unloaded the car at our destination and began to journey out onto the hard water for a 30 minute hike. We located the perch in 30 fow and set up our portable hut. Once settled in we began to start fishing. Omg it was slow going but then we started to get some dinks and jumbo perch, the fishing is on. A school of herring ended up coming through. I then got a double header on my perch rig. Top hook had a perch then I looked at the bottom hook and had my first herring on of the year Just as I went to grab hold of it the hook came out and down the hole the fish went. Continued to catch more dinks. About 2 hours later the school of herring came through and this time I managed to hook another and landed it. All in all we had a terrific day on the hard ice and cannot wait to try it again. . Thank you Lake Simcoe

Great report! Especially about the double header herring getting away!

How did your brother do?

My brother did good. He was catching jumbo perch and I was catching herring and dinks. Thank you for reading my post.

On first glimpse appears chaotic. But after closer study at the detail shows that well arranged and space utilized to the max for efficiency.

Great for posting the inside of hut - not many do.

Also noticed the insulation for the feet . . .

Good detail!

I noticed this too and I happen to have a few of those mats. Great idea.

I picked these mats up at Home Depot for around $12.00. Came in a 4 pack and each one was 24"x 24". They really keep your feet warm and dry. The best thing is they're not heavy to lug around. I highly recommend these.

We were wearing our boots but the coldness goes right through after a few hours on the ice so the mats help keep your feet warm and dry. Just like a machinest, they also have mats they stand on as well. It really helps.
Thank you Fishon22 and Dutch.
