Took the Quad out on KempBay today....shorter ride and should not be as windy.

Ended up a beautiful day, little wind and the ride over was a breeze. I have finally figured out how to pack and pull that sled with no issues.

Went out with a buddy, his third time out with me, each time a skunk for him.

Went west off 30th, towards Bear Point but not quite at the crowds there, set up in 113.

Soon realised that I had neglected to secure my thermos of coffee and it was gone and nowhere to be seen. It had jumped ship on the ride over and alas was nowhere to be seen on the ride back. Was a really nice Stanley, big clue one with a little silver top...3/4 full of coffee, milk, no sugar. I am going to get another one as that thing was amazing.

We were marking lots of fish and getting some have-baked chases. Changed to a pink on pink swammer and within minutes I had one rocket off the bottom faster than I have ever seen. Smacks the swammer twice but doesn't really grab it..must been a smaller one.

Buddy switches and then around 11:30 gets this really nice 10lber.
He is PUMPED, his first laker through the ice, many on soft water but this is his first hard water.

He kept it as his neighbor really wanted to cook it up for them as a meal.

All in all, another great day, it really went dead at around 2:30-3:00, so we packed it in and booted off home.

Man, using a quad to get out has really changed everything, may just have to keep my eyes on the used market for next year. We did hit a couple of small/medium slush pools already. With this weeks weather, there are going to be many by next weekend forsure.

Good report - especially the success!

Too bad about the thermos - saw same at B & D liquidations in Cobourg yesterday for $20. Green.

I'd think a sled/quad is the next game changer.

First, if you fished without a sonar then got one, it was night and day.
Second, i can imagine transportation being that next element that changes things up again dramatically.

Crazy about the slush pools already though. It hasn't been that warm and next week.. wow. Will be an interesting one.

How are the shores in that area usually by end of season? Still passable?

Usually on the south shore it is good because of lack of sunlight there this time of year...there was a very noticeable difference in the pressure cracks from the ride out and the ride back.

Yes becoming motorized is looking like the next step for sure heated up some ribs on my buddy setup...came out great....
