Headed out to Gull lake with some friends From Sir Sandford in Lindsay. One who never ice fished and the second who'd never caught anything ice fishing. Myself and my girlfriend both had she'd just never caught any lakers so we went at it.

They had a great day out on the ice we landed about 3 or 4 lakers in total lost a few more on the way up and actually caught one just under slot after measuring it 5 or 6 times we determined she was a keeper. The rest were all in the slot so back they went.

I missed a monster ling myself which I thought was a big old greaser that got hooked awkwardly and came up upside down turned out to be a ling the belly was about as wide as the 8" hole no joke there. Just as she came unwrapped snap there goes the line must have been rubbing on the side of the hole to long. Man I'm still kicking myself about that ling, still have yet to catch one.

Fish all came from various depths, later in the evening they seemed to like the 80 FOW oppose to the 40 and 60 FOW.

Met bluenote out there who was an awesome help to us and let us use his auger thank god lol. Think bluenote picked up the pattern better then us later in the day but hey we all still had a blast out there. Thanks again for everything Bluenote!

Waling out was easy and good, forgot to mention I also stepped into an old hole and ended up halfway up my thigh in water boot soaked great way to wrap up a day. Defiantly will be back out on Gull again sometime.

Gull has some amazing sunsets as well....

Thanks for the report. I'll let you know if we are going to head out there in 2 weeks, hopefully the ice will stick around. How was the shore ice holding up?

Nice sunset pic

Sabotfish - great read of a report! Especially good photo of the sunset with the Argo tracks leading the way!!!

Great meeting you out there yesterday! And surprised how well you all did without flashers!!! Some good technique in play for the catches!!!

Have to state that initially I was a little worried when originally posted about 4 college students going on the ice! Your team was not what was going through my mind! For those reading - they were great to fish with - especially when they were landing the first fish! Serious at fishing and the sport - and having fun outdoors!!!

When works out - would like opportunity to fish with you and team again!

Thanks!!!

Great read and good to see members getting together and having a good time..
That's what it's all about.

Plus having newbies out there and catching fish.. Priceless..

Sounds like some big ling in this lake. Will consider it for next year..

Good Luck Nicole & Glenn if you get out there..

Haha I figured saying we were in College would carry that stereotype with us... All of us are pretty outdoors oriented (Fish and Wildlife students you kind of have to be) and save our social fun for back at school but when we have time off to fish or hunt were all serious about it !

Metalbuckle there still is plenty of ice and the shore line seemed great still with the cold night temps this week you should be able to get out safely for the next two weeks for sure! At least 2.5' of ice.
