I was out on Friday and got a 10 lb 5 oz monster which is in an older post. Went back out on Sunday and was a little slow in the morning but come 12:00 the bite was on. All said and done had the best day ever ice fishing. I caught 14 lakers all around 1 to 2 lbs but nonstop action plus I caught a 1 lb 1/2 herring which is my first herring ever. I did lose around 8 fish but got to fight them half way up.

Good job. They seem to be turning on just before lunch now. I hope to get up the again to avenge Saturday. That's a beauty herring.

Really good size herring.
The net testing shows herrings up to 24 inches.

I never measured my herring but was wondering how big they got out there. And if this is average size. I know he was hungry because I had him follow my lure from 30 down to 60 then up and down for almost a minute.

One day I've got to catch a herring - especially this size!

Good report and photos!!!

How do you prepare and cook your herring?

Thanks

I clean it the same as my lake trout. I fillet it and pan fry it with kraft roasted red pepper and parmesan dressing. So good.
