So I'm a novice when it comes to centerpinning, and since I started I've always wondered if you could use a centerpin as a fly rod. For instance, my setup has 100yards of 20lb dacron fly line backing and a 10lb flourocarbon leader so its a pretty similar setup as a fly fisher would have accept a bit heavier. I know that centerpins and fly rods are quite a bit different but couldnt you still tie on flys and pull out line from the reel and use it just like a fly rod? I'm probably asking a dumb question but I thought I might as well ask

Well I would say that although some noodle rods might have similar properties to fly rods what you must remember is that it is he weight of the fly line itself that helps you cast a fly. You would not be able to throw a fly for any distance or accuracy and it would be nearly impossible with any wind. You could always put your fly reel on the noodle rod and see how well that works. I would be interested in the results.

thanks for the info, when the season opens up to my honey hole I'll put on a fly reel and see what happens!
