I seem to get swarmed by mosquitoes whether I use bugspray or not, it seems to help but only for a couple minutes. Would a lotion work better? I don't want to wear a mosquito suit, plus they can still bite you through it anyways lol

Best product I ever found was off bugspray/sunscreen. I think it only has 9% deet. When I used to tree plant (definitely wasn't a shortage of bugs), I found this worked far better than any other product and the deet concentration is way less than others.

Used to use Muskol and Deep Woods, more deet the better, but now just fire up the Thermacell.

Thermacell is what I now advocate!

No spray on body. No mess . . .

Yes - need to plan and start up at right time . . .

And don't fall asleep with beer and forget to turn off - butane runs out . . .

There are youtube videos on refilling but they haven't worked for me yet . . .

Suggestions?

Thermacell sounds great altho I plan on using it for night fishing from a boat, guess it wouldn't hurt to use lotion, spray and thermacell

night time in a boat?

not even prayers work at that time.
that's when the bugs are THICK.

under those conditions I usually where a thick sweater with a hood that they can't bite through and thick long pants. then I spray the hell out of my hands and ankles.
even then you have to put up with them bouncing off of your face and in you ears.

If night fishing perhaps 2 thermal cells - 1 bow and other stern - and have running before dusk. Then as boat moves around (on motor) coverage stays around.

These things are unbelievable good. One night when got to shore - trailered boat in wooded area - turned off thermal cell then walked a few steps to talk to the trees - wow!!!

For the flying bugs - perhaps turning down or off the fish finder and any lights. I sometimes use a stretchy scarf over nose/mouth and head - generally leaving glasses open . . .

The problem could be the shampoo, body wash/soap that you use. They dig fragrances. If youve been using the same kind of soap etc for years, or atleast something with the same general fragrance try switching it up. Changing what soaps you use on yourself when dealing
with mosquitos can be night and day. As for the off sprays, i tend to look for whichever bottle has most Deet. (Isnt good for you but is the key ingredient to fighting off mosquitos). But when they get bad, sometimes theres nothing tou can do. When we go to temagami, last year they were so bad il never forget the one night we pulled up to our campsite (crown land, middle of nowhere) after picky fishing, we shut off the boats, and you could hear all of the skeets buzzing at our campsite from the boat. It was an awful night lol. Its like they were waiting for us lol
