What's everyone's target date for open water crappies. You don't have to say what body of water, just wondering if any fanatics like myself are on here itching to get out. I myself have a target date of next weekend on a preferred river that is starting to widen open. If I can get my tin boat in at boat launch ill venture out for sure. Spent some time today rigging my rods and getting my trolling motor batteries ready. And I just fired up my little outboard.
Since the new regs the earliest I've made it out and had success was March 23rd. Last year it was April 19th. The average has been around April 10th. I love chasing crappies till early June.

I look forward to crappie season! Nice way to fill the void until bass season opens. Unfortunately for me it won't be until the second week of May. Good luck scro1908!

I usually start my crappie fishing the 2nd week of May at bk lake but I plan on chasing them all season into the fall when it gets easier. The KAWARTHA region seem to have a Vast potential with so much untapped water, my default is bobs lake but I know there are a lot of bobs lake

I love fishing for both smb & lmb but they can't hold a candle to the taste of crappie or any other pan fish for that matter - well maybe in the early spr. (out of season usually) when the water is still very cold. I'm not only a gypsy multi-species angler but, I also prepare them for consumption as well NO LIMITS here - it swims I'm set-up to catch it!

^ i too rig em up and catch em all but bass are just to much fun to catch.
the fun of fishing surpasses the taste of the fish for me. i might have a comment or two for those keeping the big females and even question their fish morals but still i don't hate on it that much as long as its within the rules.
yes i will be rigging up the noodle rod soon to head down to the river for some bows, i will put some corn on the bottom and wait on some carp and i will super slow jerk some jerk baits for pike but NONE of this can hold a candle to a nice mist on the lake on a quiet morning hearing nothing but the wake of your lure and hearing a bass smash your top water frog

hey puta,
since your a big lmb guy, have you ever fished for them in total darkness using a jitterbug or any other type of surface disturber in 2' or less of water. Their feeding on sound and chase the lure, all you hear are the sounds (splash, splash, splash), like that! you see nothing other than playing on the pull and to boot there is nothing smaller than 4 lbs.
