Final step - remove Y bones, check for bones, clean and package for freezer.
This time I did much better cleaning getting long fillets - similar to cleaning walleye but different. Just got to get used to the floppy tail.
To help keep clean - when fileting - I used a new sheet of newspaper for each fish . . .
Why better on second night? I think to do with the sharpness of the hooks used. First night - one hook bent and had caught many fish last couple years. Last night's - nearly new with all hooks proper shape.
First night I landed only 2 but had lots of hits, losses on way up and two at hole. Much better next night - and I attribute it to sharper hooks set correctly.
My last fish (landed at 3.00 am) was the smallest at 16" - it swallowed the lure!!! So I cut line for removal at home. Used the older lure and just lost minnows . . .
When on soft water I often sharpen my hooks. Next hard water season - will start doing same. Amazing the difference.
Not sure where / why I missed on the lakers - didn't mark any at any depths. Am pleased with the ling results!!!
Thanks everyone for the positive comments on the report!!!
