Good job on the rescue team!

Sh*t happens and no one really wants to fall in. The bill is already paid for by tax payers. Rescue team was already on the clock and regardless if they were dispatched or not they were still paid. Look at this as a test to their training. They spend a lot of time and money to train how to do these things. They are successful saving these two idiots is a positive story.

These two guys should be given the bill they not only endangered their lifes but put the rescuers lifes in danger as well and just for some fish. With the weather and rain we have had only common sense would tell you to stay of the ice..
Remember not to long ago a fireman lost his life in training for the same thing . Give them the bill and make it public so other could learn from this ,it just not worth it for some fish !!!!
Just my opinion!!!

Everyone stay safe ......

I am a firefighter and member of our ice water rescue team and although I think understand what you're saying I hate hearing people say anything along the lines that suggest it's what we get paid to do. We do receive compensation for our work and we train diligently and when we have a successful call it's very rewarding. But the fact remains that no matter how much training we do and how many rescues we have under our belt our lives are being put at risk to help someone who is being irresponsible. An accident or incident is one thing but blatant disregard for themselves and the rescuers is frustrating. Most of those guys and girls (the rescuers) have family to go home to, family that would be so horribly affected if something were to happen to them trying to save a couple of irresponsible morons.

Hats off for the things you do and saving lives. First off my post was more to focus on the good job done by the rescue team rather than jumping to pass off a bill.

I see differently than some people which makes this board so fun! Maybe it might just be that I've seen a lot more stupidity in around my life that is a lot worst than someone venturing out on unsafe ice. I seen a person jump a bridge onto the 404. <-- lets bill her for stupidity too. I seen someone fall off a 20foot ladder. <-- lets bill him for stupidity as well. My point is that accidents will happen and it is expected. That is why people are train to do what they do to save lives. We can also break it down to a business point as well. If all these things are not expected to happen yearly... than why budget it in training expense and equipment expense? It is expected!

I agree that it is not fair that stupid people put others at risk. But daily I commute on the roads with stupid people and I am also at risk too. But I chose to still commute.

Thank You.

Thanks guys but just to clarify, I didn't post my background for praise but for a little insight from another perspective. Like I said I understand the general conception of being trained for the purpose but there's a distinct difference between an accident and blatant disregard. A woman jumping from a bridge (clearly suffering mental health issues) is not selfish or disregarding our health and well being. Someone having a dozen beer and getting behind the wheel, killing a family or just wrecking himself, is and should they survive deserve to get the bill on top of other charges and fines. Now this is just my opinion and you're right Fish4Dinner, this is what makes forums like this unique.
