Nice catches guys. just wondering, do you need minnows to catch these fish? Also what would be the best time to fish for these beauties? Kind of new to this kind of fishing usually fish Erie and Ontario for a little larger species of steelheading. i would imagine colours would also play a role in your success? GreatReports Guys.

That's why I fish during the week. Even than shocked too see the number of people out on a Tuesday. Thought steelheading was a full contact sport eyes wide open now.

Was able to get out yesterday. Did okay but most we're caught within an hour and I was there for 5hrs. Was wondering..... The river looks pretty dirty, are these fish safe to eat?

Their generally for the most part migratory except maybe the odd few. River is horribly polluted due to road run off, farmers fields and various other primary and secondary source pollutions. I wouldn't really eat any carp, bass, perch or anything subsides from the crapies that come through the river as everything else wouldn't be really migratory. Maybe I'm wrong but I have seen some nasty water even closer to cooks... What'd you catch them on?

I do agree with Sabotfish. I know someone who owns a farm in the Marsh and along the side banks they spray a lot of chemicals to kill weeds... not just that but all the land there have tile drains that goes straight into the Canal. Fertilizer and pesticides will all wash into the Canal. Maybe the town needs to test how many ppm in the spring, summer and fall.

I wouldn't worry overly much about crappies especially the size of them look at the guidelines for eatting ontario sport fish. If you aren't eatting them everyday or sustaining yourself on them you will be more then likely fine. People still eat fish out of simcoe and the river drains Into there. Also realize the marsh there is the best filtration system anyone could ever ask for or use. The amount of contaminate that gets filtered there is unbelievable. If k had access to a water sampling kit I would do water testing but unfortunatly I dont. It's a very easy process.

Bostongeorge... No, I know I'd be fine if I ate them, I've eaten fish straight out of Lake Ontario and initially I was keeping them for myself. But now my mother wants them so it's my niece and mother who I'm concerned about. Does that answer satisfy you??
