Does anyone fish in the Whitby harbour? If so, where abouts? Off the pier? Also what could I expect to catch? At the end of last summer I moved downtown Whitby so I am a short bicycle ride from the harbour so I would like to try fishing down there when I get a few hours to myself in the evenings.

I'm close by but I've only fished there once, for a brief time, without success. But others say it's pretty good. Keep in mind that the harbour is Zone 17, unlike a lot of other Lake Ontario inlets that are Zone 20. That means that pike are open now, and bass will open a week earlier than in Lake Ontario. It also means that you have to obey all other Zone 17 regulations, not those for Zone 20.

Two or three months ago someone was asking about ice fishing Whitby Harbour. Did they get out? What were the results?

Dave B - appreciate your posting the map. That clarifies to me the differences in zones.

Thanks

Perch should be in schooling for the spawn now. Used to catch monsters off the pier when they were in years ago.

As soon as some of the ice moves out I will be in there fishing for PIKE since it is Zone 17 and Pike are open all year.

Ill be in my Kayak.

I'd be cautious about fishing the main harbor given that post was from four years ago. If we use the same logic applied within it then Frenchman's Bay is open year round as well but it is closed for April to protect the pike.

I emailed a CO and described the harbor to him and he agreed that it sounds like it would belong in Zone 20, which would mean a closed season in April.

I'm hoping to fish for pike before it closes in a couple of weeks down at the City of Toronto waterfront as we have some open water here now...hopefully catch a few!

Cheers!

Frenchmans Bay is clearly zone 20 based on the FMZ maps.

Whitby Habour, Oshawa, Bowmanville and a few others are clearly Zone 17 based on the maps.

I was out last season and I did see a CO checking people fishing and he stopped by me when I was packing in and he asked questions and was happy to know I knew Zone 17 was considered to be the Harbour.

He was more asking me to see if I knew the Reg's. We had a good discussion and gave me some tips based on his experience fishing the area.

Thanks for the information Randaller and evanxrs, I appreciate it and am sorry for any inconvenience caused by my post.

I wonder if the situation for Frenchman's Bay will change give the pier that exists there now?

Cheers!
