Hello, looking to spend a lot more time at cottage this summer in Temagami. Largest problem is I 100% have to have reliable fast internet. I'm not sure if it is possible?
Does anyone have experience with Satelite and if you can reliably stream for meetings etc?

Thanks for any help

I use Xplorenet and am quite happy with it but I'm not in the area you are asking about . Stay away from anything Bell though .

I'm on Xplornet. It's all we get where I live.

It's faster than dial up but I wouldn't say it's true high speed. The wifey has some video conferences through Skype. They are "choppy" at best.

The weather can really mess it up and slow it down too.

Compared to the high speed I had when I lived in Whitby, I'd give it a 3 out of 10.

Xplornet is good, depending on what your main needs are. Browsing.. A few YouTube videos here and there should be fine along with minimal data emails. My dad has xplornet in sprucedale and it's not too bad. However as mentioned above the download/upload speeds required for video chat and any kinda of streaming is lacklustre at best.

Contrary to another post. If you have 3G cell service from either bell or Rogers and are looking for better than xplornet speeds then this is the way to go. This option will be more costly than xplornet for the same or less data allowances per month. The difference is the speed. Although I am impressed with xplornet it's still pretty simple to figure out for those who aren't so familiar with network technologies, distance from you on your island to a local cell tower (maybe 10km) maybe more.... Distance to xplornet satellite in space..... A heck of a lot further wich results in longer ping times and slower speeds. Not knocking xplornet cuz it's really not what satellite internet used to be. Just saying still doesn't beat the cell network. Obv fs you have LTE coverage you can do anything I'd your willing to pay for it.

I went from Rogers 3G to Xplorenet last year for 2 reasons

1) cost I was paying $90.00 a month for 3G and that was for 20GB's per month then $10.00 for every extra GB average bill was $120.00, was not able to use Netflixs because it used way to much data / Xplorenet is $65.00 flat rate for 2GB per day at high speed then it slows down to really slow speed. I am able to do about 5-6 hours of Netflixs per day with no real issues

2) I found that Rogers 3G was almost unusable on weekends because of the limited cell towers with kids on the their cells phones. When I called Rogers about it they said it is a common problem the last few years in cottage areas

Not a fan of explornet but that's all I can get where I live for now
I'm on a 6 month waiting list with cable cable can't wait for unlimited data for half the price
