Seen this afternoon, just a short distance up the shore from our place. Arguably North America's largest waterfowl, they were almost totally extirpated from Canada and the USA through over hunting. A slow come back does seem to be in progress. This is the third we have seen in our area in recent years. I would guess it is a yearling, perhaps male. The tag number will be reported and I will update with the details of its history once I hear back.

Excellent shot!!!

Are the numbers of Mute swans in the area on the decrease? Wasn't it the Introduced Mute swan that also helped reduce the few Trumpeter swans?

Will be interesting to read the story of your swan.

Thanks

What's the location? I have seen a pair on the Notty a couple of years ago.

Just off the north shore of Thorah Island, Lake Simcoe.

That's awesome!!! Last year I saw one frequent the Barrie waterfront through out May. Gorgeous bird. Watching them fly is amazing, such a huge wingspan!
