Hey everybody. So as many of you are getting your gear together for this weekends Peter the pike and Walter the walleye opener I was thinking about trying for pike in couch or simcoe or St john. Thoughts?

What ever you choose to fish this weekend, it's all good. It was a long cold winter , and we have been waiting for this weekend for a while. My son and I will be out on Cooks Bay on Saturday to tangle with a few gators. Good luck to everyone this weekend.👍I still have my turkey tag to fill.

I tried launching on St. John last week (Bluebird Park), but the water was too high. Water was up to the doors on my SUV, and the boat wasn't touching the water. I'm betting on the North end of Couchiching to be a good spot to get some gators. The Washago launch was good. Suckers are still spawning, and I saw some darn decent 'eyes cruising around too. Just watch out, a bunch of oos Smallies hijacked my perch fishing there last weekend. Tight lines wherever you go!

I'm going to be out on my fishing kayak so I'm not too worried about launching. Good point about the winter. Now I have heard rumours about cooks bay being scarce for pike and have heard they've moved to Virginia beach grounds. I've seen an absolute monster pike this past ice season and last ice season right under my whole about 1-1.5 km out so I can vouche that there's pike in vb but just curious if others have heard the rumours

I cannot comment on the Virginia Beach area as I do not fish there, but as an angler who gets out almost every weekend to Cooks Bay I can tell you that there are lots of Pike in the bay.
Last year the Cooks Bay Pike were looking very healthy and in very good numbers compared to seasons past where there was the VHS virus.
Good luck to everyone on opener, hopefully the weather and fish cooperate

st john is definitely a right off unless you've got a tin tippy that can be lifted into the water or a kayak/canoe. Its unfortunate that the soap factory took back the launch but at the same time it might be what the lake needs. a little less pressure. Ive noticed over the past few years the fishing there is definitely not what it use to be. Im not sure what the residents and cottagers are going to do short of maybe trying to pay the airport to let them launch.
