Okay so it may seem as though I only talk about pike in Mitchel Lake, well thats because I can't get enough! Today I took an afternoon trip (and might've missed the last half of school... ) to go get a chance at a couple pike before I work all weekend. It started off fast and furious as we boated 8 in the first 20 minutes. The action backed off but not by much, as I finished the day catching 9 myself, and a total of 22 between the 3 of us. Water was quite warm and a little stained. I caught all mine on a size 12 silver husky jerk, fished with the typical *jerk, pause, jerk jerk pause* action, but a little harder and faster than normal. Spoons were also productive. Had many followers today as well.
My reports will change up once walleye, musky, open and so does trout in the kawartha highlands.

I can believe that! I was out last sunday caught 8 kept three all about 2 1/2 lbs.A couple guys were fishing in the same area as I was and I bet in 1 1/2 hrs they easily got 20 pike.Every time I looked over one or the other was bringing one in. They weren't the only ones out there doing damage either.Unbelievable amount of pike in that little lake. Kerry

It amazes me as well! It's all about finding the good spots and hammering them hard all day and of course rotating to other spots in the process. Funny how the regs include the slot limit for walleye there... As if a walleye could survive all those pike...

It's not as if there Isn't a huge amount on the lake, I've been out on days with 7 or 8 others and still caught a nice haul. I could care less if everyone gets a share of the pie... maybe it's just me.

If they are catching pike north of 40" and tiger musky in Balsam then Mitchell is a nursery. We will NEVER get them out of there.Just got to try and keep them in check now so that the musky fishery the Kawarthas is renowned for doesn't get pushed to the brink of collapse. Got to admit for every pike I keep another walleye has a chance to make babies! Kerry

You are trying to say the lake can not be over fished ? Probably one of those bass boats that sits in the same spot with 3 other bass boats side by side lol . Keep up the good work you guys are really doing your part !

I feel like nobody is saying that at all. Generally I try not to attack people for engaging in what this forum is all about. It's a bit of put and take; put in some info and take out some info and everyone wins. Except for those who decide to get mad and call people out, there are better places for that attitude

a lot more takers then givers... Over 8000 members and likely double in guest...likely 80% lurkers.. I would say the fish aren't going to be the winners.
My opinion.....Don't t need lake names to enjoy a good post and pics

I'll keep that in mind, I'd also just like to add that I felt as if it's a well known lake to begin with, not going to lie I never really thought this sort of thing would happen...
