Fish kebabs. After working all day at the outpost and then running the boats out after a heavy downpour, we were asked to get some fish for "Fish Fry Wednesday." I caught these four off the dock in front of the lodge using our standard jig and minnow.

Amazing!

How long did it take you to get these four?

Are there other fish targeted in the lake?

Thanks

Hey, Bluenote. It took about an hour or so; the two other dock hands were fishing as well and they both left before I did with a limit.

While anglers that come here do practice catch and release, they also keep fish for shore lunches and dinner back at camp. We, the staff, release any walleye over 18"; anything in the 15"-18" range is fair game for eating.

Northerns and walleye are the primary species that are caught here but some anglers also target perch. There are also whitefish and burbot but they seem to be the exception.

If you get the time / opportunity should see if you could catch all species - great to compare during a fish fry?

For your four walleye caught - how many released - too large or too small?

Thanks

The four walleye that I kept are the four that I caught. I'm not sure about the other dockhands; they may have released one or two that were too small but kept all of the others. Most of the walleye that I have caught up here are in that 14"-18" range; I have caught a couple that were undersized and one or two that were 20 1/2" to 22" in size. From what I have seen to date, any walleye in the low to mid 20" range is a big catch. With the regs up here, you are allowed to keep one over 18"; even so, anglers are strongly encouraged to release the 18"+ fish and just keep the smaller "eaters."
