Launched at Harris Boat Works - first time ever I've ever had to wait - 20 minutes of boats getting out at 7.00. Took me 20 minutes waiting to quickly get in. Most the other boaters are either infrequent with trailer or their boats are just big / cumbersome. Anyhow, as I walked back boat from parking truck - I saw the worst - van couldn't back up their extra long trailer. It was almost a comedy that I quickly left
For almost two hours I applied the techniques learned from Shagdrrotten6969. Tonight I managed to land a fish - small blue gill that had swallowed the hook!!! This was a large walleye hook and a very small blue gill mouth!!! I don't get it.
Lots of hits and nothing else except many lost worms. Did use the opportunity to check actual depth from fish finder with Navionics chart - some areas matched - other areas Navionics was grossly wrong. To confirm location on map I used rough checks from various land. GPS was good.
At dusk I went straight to the one productive spot for me this year on Rice.
First landed a 12 " walleye.
Then, first time in a long time lost jig to probable 19" walleye! This was a smaller hook than my norm as was hoping to land a few crappies. Wasn't using braid. Guessing one huge bite - braid would have survived?
Next fish landed was 22" walleye. Thought I'd do the metalbuckle trick and take a picture. What a challenge!!! Fish didn't cooperate - flies liked the light. Over the side . .
Another under at 12.5"
Then two keepers at 16 and 17".
Lost jig to some rocks so called it a night.
Tonight was low wind - the bugs and mosquitoes were worst yet for me. Turning on headlamp to manage hooks and fish was a challenge. Ended up attaching the off machine to my headlamp headband. Made a difference except now heard the whine of fan . . .
For me - tonight was terrific - applied some new learnings and harvested from past learning!
If weather is good - my next time I have chance to go out is Wednesday evening. Hoping to take a friend (non fisher) and 17 year old son who is very interested. Took him (son) out two or three years ago - he still describes the large bass and walleye that we caught, cleaned and he helped cook for his family . . .
