No wonder they call them snakeheads in the states. They look kinda like snakes. I really do think someone will catch one soon with a leg or two starting to grow lol.

I used to catch them a lot while going for carp in Frenchmans bay but haven't got one in years

Aren't common names fun?! Every couple of blocks they change, and nobody knows what you're talking about. Using the scientific name sounds snobbish to some, but it will save any confusion. Just a quick Google search will locate it. Put that in your posts and discussions will go a lot faster.

Look carefully at that picture and it seems that there is a spot at the upper base of the body where it becomes tail. That identifies it as Amia calva. Case closed.

A bowfin and a Snakeheads are different fish. I don't think any snakeheads made it's way to canada yet. But in the USA they have both. We have Snakeheads in the potomac river where I've fished before.

Bowfin are resident fish in the north america.

These are two excellent comparison pictures of burbot / ling and bowfin / dogfish.

Ling is scales, whiskers similar to catfish. Bowfin has scales.

Perhaps swimming through the water could be considered the same . . .

Not so, do a little research on species and you will find the differences or use the scientific names and no issues or errors.
