So it's my buddy's birthday and we decide to try for some skies since he hasn't caught one yet.... Well this is what he gets...can someone confirm fish can have tumors like this?

This was sturgeon lake by the way... Right off of snugs harbour

nasty, caught a few over the yrs with tumours like that but usually no bigger than a loonie. got one in sturgeon, cameron and stoney

Yes Musky and pike get what is called Lymphosarcoma and it is a fatal disease.

That sure is crazy, wow. Ive seen a few over the years, but nothing that size! It also looks extremely painful, is that blood coming out of it?

It looked even worse in person, and yes I believe it had some blood coming off it. While it was rolling in the net the " tumor " was rubbing/shedding off. we were in disbelief and had no idea what to do with this thing. Looking back maybe we should have killed it, but I have a hard enough time killing an eye to eat. We just figured we'd let nature run its course.it was released and took off with ease so hopefully she can live with whatever time its got left.

Do you know if the tumor is permanent or if it can somehow someway get removed?

I would see removal as a challenge - cut it off and bleeds to death. Likely MNR could charge you . . .

Keep the under slot fish to take to a vet? MNR would charge you. . .

I think choice made here in documenting and releasing is best for fish and sport . . .

If read article in link - estimated 15% of musky in Kawarthas have this disease. And is not just external lesion also internal on liver etc . . .
