Hello everyone, I'm visiting rice lake from Vancouver island. My grandpa and I are staying at tam-Bir cottages south east of tick island. We have landed a bunch of perch and 4 bass and one under sized walleye. I was wondering what everyone's doing and where they are fishing for walleye. Ours was caught trolling North from tick island, using a willow leave with a large wedding band tipped with a yum worm. We rented the boat and it's a 15' Fiberglas with a merc 9.9. No fish finder or anything to help us find depts or schools of fish. Any help would be awesome! We are here until July 25th thanks everyone!

Willow leaf is a string of flashers used for trout usually. Same with the wedding band small spinner with a hook.

Overkill with the willow leaf thing, try simple worm harness or Victor Spoons with 2 split shot 18 inches from the lure. Troll 13 to 9 fow on weed edges. Rice Lake gives up plenty of fish mid day so don't worry about getting up early or doing the evening bite only. If you like ripping hair jigs in the weeds that will work as well as small perch and firetiger rapalas trolling the weeds.

Have a look at my post and Bluenote's post, proof is in the pudding.

Good luck !!

Thirdyodd - I sent you pm.

Forgot to add - post a report and pics of your fishing!

You're doing better than many if catching bass and perch. I've only caught two perch on Rice.

If you're around till 25th - why not join the tournament tomorrow? It's likely not too late to join - see the posts from Putaforkinya . . .

Thanks

I was reading about the tournament, we don't have a live well and the boat we rented doesn't have any lights on it. We are heading out now and I'll post some pics for sure

Finally found them! My grandma grandpa and I had our best day on the lake today. 6 keepers. I will add picture of the rig I was using tomorrow afternoon when we come in for lunch. Hopefully we can land a few by then for dinner!

Looking forward to your pictures of the walleye tomorrow! Great that you got into them today!

How did you find the wind - constant and high from the west?

If you're here for the week - you've done really well for the weather in general!

Have to ask - Vancouver Island - vacationing Ontario - short hair / beard - are you Canadian Navy?

Thanks

No I don't work for the navy, I actually work in Alberta. I've been fish here before, last time before this trip was 15 years ago. And before that likely 10years. My family all lived in Hamilton , we migrated to the west coast in "92. My grandparents and I have been joking around on this trip. "We can catch 25lb salmon at home why did we travel across canada to go fishing!?!?"
