Bury them. I do
2 feet down or so and you won't smell anything.

For the cottage I'm liking the idea of putting back in water - will try that when I've my next week on Kashagawigamog. That is - if I catch anything. I'll dump somewhere where I can watch the carcass and how long takes to disappear . . .

As for burying - agree with others that not recommended if good scent dog or hound in yard - bored, they'd find in no time unless deeply covered.

For my holes I usually dig down 2' then add the mostly frozen fish (wrapped in newspaper) then cap with 6" compressed earth.

A year or two later when digging through same area is amazing to see the numerous amounts of big worms.

I've never had problems with skunks or racoons digging up. Never odours.

In front yard gardens I can only dig under the stepping stones - everywhere else would disturb the bulbs . . .

There's some fish in that lake - the three muskies I caught / released eat something . . .

I've got to figure out 'how to' catch them. Softwater - very different than what I've been doing on Rice . . .

Will try the suggestion on ling from this post - leave carcass and try fishing night . . .

Stay tuned for reports on Kashagawigamog in late August!

Thanks

My dad did something like this. I cannot stand the smell... some say it does not smell. But to me it is gross.

Amazing link!

Maybe not for the cottage. Would work for home.

Not clear how long for breakdown and how bad the smell would be when cracking open to stir and add more fish guts (wrapped in lots of newspapers).

And draining - would it require spigot on side near bottom? Drain off gallon - add a gallon of water?

Anaerobic - does it need to vented? Or can stay sealed? Or put bubbler in to add oxygen?

Or do I bury in ground and have small / slow drainage holes and just keep adding fish / water / paper. Sort of like a septic system? Are there not composers similar for dog waste?

Thoughts?

Thanks
