I went down to a near by creek that I do a lot of fishing in during the summer. There are mainly sunfish perch creek chub etc. But today there were two bigger fish which I thought were trout... No they couldn't be...maybe giant creek chub? I cast my small jig with a worm right to it perch takes it. Perch after perch I couldn't get the bait down to it. Finally it takes it! Pull it out beauty speckled trout! Wow then I get anoother one this one is much bigger.
Finished with a conservation limit of specs what a morning!
Has anyone ever caught them in a kawartha creek before? I thought maybe they got out of a pond someone stocked then swam downstream.

I have caught Brookies in a creek not terribly far from Lindsay. They're a nice change from the warm water species, and from what I've been told, there's also Brown Trout in some creeks up there too. My go to bait is a size 0 Mepps or miniscule Panther Martin. Orange or gold blades...

I have heard of brook tout, smallmouth bass and even pike up in my nearby river but can never seem to find them, how far upstream do these fish usually go up from the lakes?

The trout are most likely resident fish around there. All of my fishing happened around culverts and bridges. Look for overhanging trees and cast past. I should assume these fish don't see many lures...

Nice.
Looks like one of my fillet jobs though. I would have chopped her into steaks
Fishing off the public dock when I was a kid a dead bookie was floating by. I found it so strange as there wasn't a creek around and that's where I assumed they'd live in.

once had a little secret spot just north of scugog on a little stream where it ended in a deep pool under a culvert. Caught brookies over 15'' every time I went. never kept any as I knew I would diminish the population. came back there the fall that year and saw tims cups and empty worm cans everywhere and there were no trout left I come back every now and then to see if they came back but I only catch a few really small ones and some chub. long story short, NEVER SHARE A BROOKIE SPOT!

We have a cottage in the Kawarthas and have always thought about trying some of the smaller creeks around. Now you got me really interested! Great job , very nice looking fish!
