75% of the time on the boat where jig fishing as close to straight up and down as possible as long as the conditions allow.
Size of jig is important for the conditions like wind and depth.
I use jigs 1/8th upto 1/2 again depending on conditions but normally use 1/4 ounce which covers a lot of scenarios.
The colors I prefer are in order , white being king for me then pink, green then yellow but you can get jigs that have a combination of these colors that work very well...I used to only buy matzu jigs and did find they would out fish other jigs and I believe it was the eyes on the matzu jigs but there prices just got too expensive.
Line I find is key or it definitely helps for catching walleye especially when fish just are not on . 6lb is what I have on most of my rods and one with 8lb test that I troll with. With all this said I try to pick the days with less wind especially for vertical jigging to get out. Here's a sketch that my brother in law did from our May trip to Marten River.
Hey drb your not rambling just killing time till your next fishing expedition!!!! Lol. Cheers fishmagnet
