Went out to balsam lake yesterday, fished around Hogg island for over an hour without any luck then went and tried topwater for about 3 hours, tons of strikes but only 4 landed (I swear some of these bass are blind) managed to catch two in the 2-3 pound range others smaller (new livetarget frog). As the bite started to slow down we decided we would go to another one of our spots and throw spinnerbaits for a while and on the second cast BAM 4 pound pike. Nothing else other then a lot of perch and some small perch. After about an hour of that with little to no success we figured we would go back and try some more topwater and again, tons of strikes but we were only able to land one. Overall great day on the water.

We spent about 3 hours fishing around Hogg island yesterday afternoon . We managed 4 nice smallmouth and two good size largemouth . We also got a couple of of pickerel there . What we did was let the wind drift us down the channel while we casted crankbaits and small spoons. It worked out well. The only problem your right in the middle of all the boaters ripping around.we did try top water first thing in the morning as conditions where good for that, but same result as you . Lots of hits . It was a great day until we got soaked at the boat launch coming out.

How far away from hogg were you? We went once around the shoreline casting spinners with no success, we hooked into a smallmouth about 100 feet away from but spit the hook when it jumped
