Bait them.

Put an ad on kijiji saying you're looking to buy that type of outboard.

Kijiji has it's good and questionable sides, last week there were two electric walker riggers for $160 pr..they looked in great shape but came without bases ???

Back in the day late at night some lads slipped into the port credit yacht club in a tin boat and removed about 10 riggers from the sides of charter boats... guess the buyers got no bases ??

Lucky lads though , If they had tried that on Casey's (RIP) boat while he was sleeping there as normal they most likely would have experienced a very unpleasant outcome..

Always wary when prices are stupid low..

Due to recent thefts of sleds and a break-in-apparently a block from my home, I have now "chained" my downriggers. Never in my life did I think I would have to do this.

Pretty sad commentary considering it's 2015.

I think the best way would be to make like a zapper , as soon the anyone touches anything on the boat they get electruted some how.

Crime is everywhere that's why I'm shopping for a video security cameras .
The prices are pretty reasonable and not hard to install..
The peace of mind makes it well worth it and maybe it won't stop them but at least i will have some video of the losers.... Then I can self police it as well..

Cheers fishmagnet!!!

The Q-see cameras are very effective. My dad has a few around his house to catch wild life and what not. You can view multiple cameras at once using your smart phone or your t.v, live. They also support playback, and you can also tweek the motion sensors that will record when they get set off. We use one as a baby monitor, (mine has sound option, i can also talk thru my phone and it will come thru the cameras speaker). There a great alternative to the more expensive security cameras. I like them because aslong as you have data/wifi connection you can view the cameras wherever you are. Its nice to be able to check up on things when not at home, you can also have multiple users if you wish to give your family members access to the cameras, and multiple users can view the cameras at the same time.

My neighbor has cameras everywhere..after he noticed a bunch of his stuff missing one day.... He looked at hours of footage from several cameras to see a car pull up to his driveway but stay on the road (too dark to see make and colour and definitely no shot of plates). Then he saw a guy get out. Other cameras caught him stealing stuff while wearing a dark hoodie. Nothing he could take to police. I was on a construction Site once re constructing a main drag and one night the door was carefully taken off of a bulldozer. It was worth over $5000. Police came and did a report, a store owner near by said he had a security camera facing the bulldozer and the police could have the footage... Store owner told me weeks later that cops never asked for it! Sorry but I see little point in wasting money on a camera.

That's because there's a lot of lazy cops, get the basic information, crank out a common report, file it and close the file. Now if you said the recipe to a Tim Hortons secret maple donut recipe was involved, they'd have the forensic team there.

This board needs 'likes this' just for this post alone!

I've filed a couple of police reports over the years to satisfy my insurance co's requirements. It seemed like a waste of time---guys just going thru the motions. The last time was worse than useless-----a couple of arrogant P$#cks showed up.

I wouldn't put it past you if the cops are using it themselves. That's why thieves are never caught.

Wow! Some real cop bashing going on here! I wonder if on the police forum there is a thread about that idiot that killed the musky on camera....And all the cops are saying " ya fisherman all love killing fish like that!"

This used to be a nice friendly forum.... Back in the day, with a lot of like minded intelligent folk???

I came home last night to find a 9.9 Johnson on my boat. Fired it up in the driveway and it's running well. I'm still not sure where it came from yet. I think it was my neighbor? Point is there are still a lot of good people out there.
